My Cup Runneth Over!

GypsySoul:

The world is full of beauty, charm, and adventure. Experiencing such beauty opens a thousand windows to reveal God! I was yearning to see Angkor Wat. God is so awesome He granted even the small wishes and desires that fluttered in my heart ๐Ÿ’–

Architecture is inhabited sculpture!

Angkor Wat is the crowning glory of the Khmer Dynasty in the 12th century. It reflects the sophistication in planning and the engineering advancements of the ancient civilization. Standing midway between the entrance gate and the Angkor Wat, we can travel back in time in our minds and conjure up the splendor as king Suryavarman II came on a parade on the elephants along these same stone paved path. How wonderful it would have been!

Architecture should speak of its time and place, but should yearn for timelessness - Frank Gehry

You make my heart glow!

A window into the Past

My heart feels so full that it hurts!
There is so much beauty it is overwhelming!
My eyes can't behold anymore charm, my brain can't process anymore brilliance!
Every inch of this place is a masterpiece. The straight doorframes, the organic vines that wrap around the straight doorways, the smiling apsaras, the thousands of characters in the murals all eternally frozen in stone caught in mid action, screaming, running, fighting, riding...how can a small chisel create such a vast array of emotions! Who was the mastermind behind this genius architecture?

Ethereal apsaras
There are nearly 2000 Apsaras in Angkor Wat! Each one has a different facial features. It is believed that the sculptors used the people from their lives as the models when they carved the Apsaras.

The only Apsara that shows her teeth!

The symmetry! The scale! The creativity!

The world’s longest continuous bas-relief stretching over 2,600 feet

Look at that perfect circle in stone! Look at the intertwined arms and legs in action! The costumes, the jewelry, the facial expressions. Everything fits together so beautifully in the intricate mural that is only half an inch deep.

Amen!
