A View From Above
For a short time the government of Cambodia gave one day free admission into the Angkor Wat complex if we bought one day tickets. I wanted to take full advantage of the offer and wanted to climb to the top of the Pre Rup.
So on the way back to the airport, Sam took us to Pre Rup. To my amazement, we were the only people there too.
We went up the steep steps to the top
Rising like a pyramid of brick, Pre Rup was built in the 10th century
Intricate stone carvings of dancing apsaras line the upper tiers.
The view from the top is breathtaking and gives good glimpse of the Angkor Wat terrain. There are lush rice fields and lofty trees spreading in every direction. We almost feel like we are sitting on top of the clouds looking down.
It was exciting to walk close to the edge. It almost felt like floating!
It was time to go back to Thailand. The short time we were in Cambodia we fell in love with its beauty, antiquity, architecture, culture and cuisine. This is a place I can see myself come back again and again and loving it every time!
We can't leave without one more yummy meal! We went to this beautiful restaurant to eat breakfast.
As usual, I ordered a huge tender coconut. Papu got a coffee.
Even their breakfast is so elaborate! So yummy!
While we were eating, a young boy came with some handmade bamboo musical instruments. He showed us how to play it. It made an unusual sound.
Sam and the driver dropped us off at the airport. This is, by far, the best service I have experienced in all my travels. They picked us up at the airport when we landed and every day they worked with us from 4 am showing us around all the wonders of Cambodia. They made the experience so special with a lot of information about each place, local snacks, local hangouts, and refreshments like cold water and a wet towel whenever we got back into the car. Sam spiced it up with a lot of dad jokes and some off color jokes too!
On the way to the airport, Sam gave both of us a handmade bracelet with our names on it. This personal touch made the whole experience exceptional!
