Food, Glorious Food!
On the way back from Wat Trammit, we noticed that the Chinatown had come alive with so many food stalls for the festival season. People were buzzing everywhere, and vendors had eye-catching colorful desserts and freshly made fried goodies.
Everything seemed so good and was a bit overwhelming. I did not know what to try or how much to buy. Joker helped me to get little of different things. His selection was very yummy!
Of all the things we tried, this is my favorite. They had made some dessert that tasted a lot like pongal with rice and brown sugar and then they stuffed it inside bamboo and roasted it in fire. That gave the dessert a smoky chewy flavor. I would go back to Thailand just to try this food again! It came with a bamboo spoon too.
Joker also bought a freshly cut Durian fruit. It was not stinky as they say, maybe because it was fresh. It reminded me of palapazham but the texture was more creamy like custard. The hotel we stayed in had strict rule that Durian is not allowed in its premises. The rooms had notice warning fines if they found durian in the room. So I called Papu out of the hotel so she could also try Durian.
We brought bags of goodies to the hotel lobby and proceeded to try them one by one. Joker explained the food as much as he could and also took some pictures of us trying each one for the first time.
Joker really made the few minutes we had before we had to leave to the airport so special by helping us try the local foods.
It turned out to be a real foodie trip!
***Comedy Alert***
We got to the airport and before checking in our luggage we wanted to weigh everything. I brought a small handheld scale. So we rearranged everything and were having a hard time lifting our suitcase and with much struggle finished all packing. Papu had bought fruits, rice and other Thai specialities. After everything was done we saw a guy walk near us and effortlessly weighing his luggage on the weighing scale right next to us!!! We didn't even notice till then that the airport had a scale right there!

The food court in the airport is really good. We also ate the yummy fried rice and mango sticky rice that Papu made in her cooking class.
We were all spent! Miles and miles of walking, sleepless nights and busy days were catching up with us. Like a doll that runs out of battery, we both were winding down at the end of the trip. Papu crashed. She said that the lights were all off even at the airport in Bangkok because all the other passengers were middle aged Indian men :)
Thank you, Jesus!
Thank you Jesus for this wonderful trip! Thank you for your protection, for sending your guardian angels, for the favor in the eyes of the people, for giving us beautiful moments, for good health, yummy food, and for making all our interactions with other people at the hotels, tours, etc very pleasant and fun.
