High on life
After settling in, we simply walked.
I had my phone out, confidently guiding us with GPS like a seasoned traveler. There was something empowering about walking through a completely unfamiliar place — streets we had never seen before, signboards in a different style, new sounds, new smells — yet feeling secure because that tiny blue dot was leading the way.
It felt adventurous and freeing at the same time.
We eventually found a Thai restaurant - Tuk Tuk Thai - and decided to step in. The aroma itself was inviting. I ordered authentic Thai fried rice, and when the plate arrived, it was generously full — steaming, colorful, and fragrant.
The first bite? Absolutely worth it.
Calories don't count while we are on vacation!
Mango shake, Mango sticky rice, mango, mango, mango mania...
The mango sticky rice tasted more like coconut pudding with mango rose on top. The portions were huge and the tart mango pieces balanced well with the sweet sticky rice.
It was so delicious that, despite the large portion, I surprised myself by finishing the entire plate. Every single grain. That’s how good it was.
Then we did the canopy...now, thinking about it ..Wow how much we have done in a day in ElNido!!!
The canopy walk
Hiking to the tops of the trees
When I first heard about the canopy walk, I was very excited. What an amazing way to get a birds-eye view of the beautiful El Nido town laced with silver sands and jeweled with turquoise waters. What an adventurous way to get to that aerial view through suspension bridges and zigzagging stairways!
Oh. My. Goodness.
It was thrilling, slightly terrifying, and wildly adventurous all at once.
Suspended high above, carefully placing one foot in front of the other, feeling the height beneath us — it definitely pushed us out of our comfort zone.
The suspension bridge was one of the highlights of the canopy walk. We were secured by a harness and was connected to a cable. This is the kind of organized chaos I love. It feels dangerous. Yet it is absolutely safe. Or is it?
The whole bridge is tied together with ropes and netting. We were inching our way on a dangling web like a spider.
We tried being Batman and Superman...why not Spiderman too!!!
Once we crossed the suspension bridge the path continued with a narrow metal mesh that crisscrossed over jagged rocks.
We weren't secured by the harness at this point. If we fell through the side of the walkway they would barely scrape us up in one piece. The razor sharp limestone rock formations under our feet stood menacing as we balanced on the narrow path.
One misstep and we'll be fodder for the vultures! Papu seemed a bit terrified by that fact and was very nervous at times.
There were moments when my heart skipped, but the view and the adrenaline made it unforgettable.
The view from the top was worth all the risk!
We'll be boarding one of those boats the next day, hopping through those beautiful islands and swimming in that crystal clear tortoise waters!
It feels good to zoom out and enjoy the big picture!
One of those “we actually did that!” memories.
Now it is time to retrace our steps. Sometimes the way down is scarier than the way up! We could get a better view of those razor sharp peaks under our feet.
Papu asked the guide if anyone had fallen off the path onto the rocks in the past. He casually said, "Sometimes". We both looked at each other with wide eyes, then looked at him in shock..."Sometimes???"
He said, "Some tourists have dropped their cellphones before". Then we realized that he misunderstood our question. When we asked again if any tourists fell through, he said, "No no...only things" :) Phew! We can breathe now...
Living on the edge!
