Dungeons and Dragons

Hundred Caves

The hundred caves was in a very remote area. We were the only tourists there. After we got our helmets and gloves on, we walked through a thick jungle towards a mountain.

We had two guides with us. One was walking ahead of us and another behind us.

The terrain started changing. It became more adventurous and uphill.

The guide in the front was a good photographer. I gave my action camera to him to videotape the whole experience.

We had to scramble up on big boulders with no safety equipment other than the ropes on either side. We felt like little children at play!

Once we walked up the rocks, we saw the entrance to the cave.

It had a lot of nooks and corners. I was able to crawl in there a little.

Once we walked inside the cave, the guides asked us to turn on the headlights.

This cave was huge. It seemed like a set out of a movie. Papu kept saying that she saw a movie that was exactly like this. A girl got trapped in a cave with a dragon in the movie. She suggested that we watch that movie together.

The cave was pretty dark and we followed the light of our guide.

There were cool formations inside the cave. The limestone stalactites hanging from the ceiling like icicles were huge and hard like rocks to touch. They made a musical sound when we tapped on it.

The caves seemed like they were carved out of human hands into a tunnel. But it was all natural and was wonderful to explore.

We had to crawl on some rocks, slide down some boulders and walk by the light of the helmets.

Look at Papu caving like a pro!!!

For steep ascent and decent they had some primitive wooden steps.

The steps looked rickety but served the purpose.

This is one of my favorite cave adventures. This huge cave felt very personal because we were the only people there. It seemed very exclusive and beautiful!

The guides knew the perfect spots for a photo stop!

Papu seems very comfortable in that little niche!

The pictures look very bright and the rocks look yellow and radiant, but when we were walking through it, the whole place looked very dark, huge, and mysterious! We felt like little cockroaches scrambling though the rocks.

Yikes!!! Look at that HUGE spider! If you are scared of spiders, this will make you scream like a little girl! This is a mega monster!

After seeing the spider, sitting or crawling on rocks were a little scary. What if we get bit in the bum!

Rock solid adventure

This trip really ROCKS!!!

The limestone rocks were pretty smooth and we did not get any scrapes or bruises from all this scrambling. The gloves also helped a lot.

Best view comes from the deepest crawl!

Into the dark, unexplored realms!
While were in the cave, we saw a hole on the floor that lead to deeper more adventurous part of the cave. We needed to squeeze through tighter spaces and would need to descend on ropes to access that area. I was telling Papu we should try that next time.

Things we do to get good photos!!! I was a little worried about that huge spider when we were rolling between rocks for this picture.

Picture Perfect!
Mother nature is an artist to carve such a perfect circle!

Not all who wander are lost; some are just looking for cool stalactites!

I think we were both covered in limestone dust because of all the crawling!

Nature's secret vault

Leaving the underground paradise!
After an hour of exploring underground it was time to climb up and crawl out of the cave. Papu kept saying that this place looked exactly like the setting in the dragon movie.

Our guides were so cool. They made sure that we stayed safe at all times and they pointed out to all the good formations and photo spots. Without them we would've definitely lost inside the maze.

The guide who walked in the front was only wearing flipflops and he was so agile, he was able to walk backwards while videotaping us.

Now it was time to walk back to the parking through the thick jungle, going downhill.

Philippines boasts over 3,000 spectacular caves. We were so glad to explore three of them on the same day. It was so much fun and definitely pushed us to our limits. We enjoyed every bit of it!
