Welcome to Hawker Heaven!

Back at the beautiful Changi Airport. We decided to explore Singapore today on our own.

Chinese New Year decorations: Year of the Horse

Made up of 1,216 bronze droplets, the Kinetic Rain sculpture moving in unison is mesmerizing!

We got on the Metro and went to the Hawker Center. It was fun to figure out the train routes.

The Hawker Center was bustling with people with barely enough space to stand. Our first mission was to find a table for two. After we got a cramped but cozy spot to sit, we started looking around at the countless options. Some stalls had huge lines. That's a clear indication that the food must be good there.
The great thing about the Hawker Center was that the food was authentic, fast moving, fresh, and very inexpensive! Most dishes were under $5.

Livin’ la vida laksa!

Spicy, sour, sweet and savory – the popular Singapore hawker dish of laksa blends many flavors into one delicious bowl...rice noodles swimming in a rich coconut milk curry.

This spicy green chilly dish with sugar cane juice is a great combination

Chilli Oil fried dumplings
The portion sizes of all the dishes at the Hawker Center were very generous. We could hardly finish what we bought. There were Indian stalls with mutton biriyani and so many other mouthwatering options. But we were so full.

I saw them making a big Min Jiang Kueh Pancakes with different fillings. I tried the coconut. The sweetness wasn't overpowering and the nutty flavor was really nice. It was a good ending to our culinary adventure!

We walked past the fruit stalls. Papu bought a variety of fresh fruits to try.

Haji Lane

Haji Lane, in the Arabic Quarters of Singapore, is a vibrant narrow alley famous for its eclectic mix of independent boutiques, colorful murals, street art, and lively cafes. Papu waited for me a the Metro station while I walked over to Haji Lane near the Sultan Mosque to try the famous Putu Piring!

Netflix Haig Road Putu Piring

While watching a show called Street Food they feature a putu piring shop in Singapore that specializes in fresh putu piring with different fillings like brown sugar, coconut, peanut butter, etc. Ever since I saw the show, I really wanted to try it.
I am so thankful that Jesus gave me an opportunity to actually go to Singapore and try it!

Putu piring is a traditional rice flour cake filled with palm sugar (gula melaka) and topped with grated coconut, popular in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. The name comes from its shape, as "piring" means "saucer" or "tiny plate" in Malay. They serve it with a pandan leaf.

I sat there a ate some while it was still steaming. It tasted a lot like our puttu but with the brown sugar melted in the middle. It was so satisfying to my heart more than my tastebuds to know that my heart's desires are fulfilled, even though it was such a small insignificant wish!

Little India, Big Flavors!

We got on another train and went to little India. We wanted to shop at the Mustafa store. It is a big one stop shopping complex

Singapore: a feast for the eyes and the belly!

For dinner, Papu got kothu parota and I got the coin parota from a restaurant in Little India. I also got some sugarcane juice.

The portions were big and the food was really good. They gave yummy salna in big dappas.

Looks like this little robot got attracted by the smell of our parota. It came closer and just stopped near us.

Ending the trip, but keeping the memories!

Thank you, Jesus, for this wonderful trip.
We enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for ironing out all the wrinkles along the way and letting us have a fun adventure and relaxing time while enjoying good food and friendly people along the way.
Thank you for going in front of us and for being with us. Thank you for your divine protection even on the days we weren't careful. Thank you for the good weather and for the beautiful creations. Thank you for listening to our prayers. Thank you for fulfilling our heart's desires, big and small!
